Logopress3 Tool Animation is one of the favorite features of our users, and for good reason. It helps to make the die designer a much better designer by helping him or her to catch their mistakes before the die design gets out onto the shop floor. Of course it is also a great visual tool for teaching people about die design as well as making design reviews much more meaningful.
The related Logopress3 Dynamic Interference Detection, used after SolidWorks interference detection is used first, catches the non-static interferences that SolidWorks interference detection will not catch. For example, a common mistake is to miss the fact that a form block is sticking up in the die someplace downstream and the designer does not lift the strip high enough for an earlier formed down tab to be able to lift over this form block sticking up as the stock advances through the die.
(0:39) The die design being animated below is the one that was featured in the cover story of MetalForming Magazine in the February, 2011 issue. You can find the reprint here: The Past, Present and Future of Die Design. This die design is near and dear to my heart since it is the first die design that I personally had done in 5 years. The design you see here took 65 hours to design, including 100% detail - each manufactured die component was on its own individual drawing sheet. The die worked the first time in the press, with only some minor tweaking of the forms. Note that I had caught a mistake I had made on the design by using Dynamic Interference Detection that would have caused the die not to work the first time in the press had I not used it.
