Above are some pictures of a 43" long, 22 pound Hybrid "Tiger" Musky
that I caught on a lake in Vilas county in Wisconsin on June 28, 2001 on a
beautiful, sunny afternoon. I had caught a 41" "regular" Musky the day
before and released it. After getting back to the cottage that
evening and calling home, my family gave me grief for
always releasing my fish. In hindsight, it would have looked very
nice on the wall of my new office. I must have spent an hour that
evening praying for another musky. The Lord answered my prayers
the very next day and gave me another fish that exceeded the first in size, weight, and aggressiveness.
The taxidermist told me that only one in twenty fish
that he sees is a "Tiger". A Tiger Musky is a cross between a
Northern and a Musky and after finding out that they are sterile and
can't reproduce, I felt much better about keeping her (I'm told all
Tigers are female). We also caught a few smaller Muskies and had
well over a dozen follows in the three days we fished. My fishing
partner was also blessed with a 41" Musky on the third day of fishing
that he subsequently released. All fish were caught during the
middle of the day with sun shining down and some chop to the water.
Nearly all were caught with Mepps Musky Killer Bucktails.
